The Spanish general contractor AE3000 constructed the rooftop solar park some 13 km northwest of Tarragona, in Catalonia. It started operation at the beginning of 2011. The facility is located on the roof of a juice packaging plant.
The installation uses 5,374 modules assembled by Sunpower. The 215PE solar panel is based on monocrystalline technology, which is characterized by its very good module efficiency. A comprehensive operations and maintenance plan was developed to ensure the long-term performance of the PV plant.
Long-term project financing for the facility was arranged in conjunction with Commerzbank, supported by a low-interest subsidy from the KfW development bank. The funding model allows the payment of annual scheduled dividends, while fulfilling the necessary reserve requirements.
